Workbooks,
Planners, and Guides
Print materials
are included in training as an additional mode in which learners gain information,
practice and enhance newly acquired skills. The print materials include workbook
activities, personal planning, and learning resources. These are tangible documents
that the learners maintain and use throughout training. They are also valuable
resources for learners as they continue their education and/or gain employment.
Print materials include a student workbook, a Personal Planner, and a Learning
resource Guide.
Student
Workbook
- The workbook
is a printed document that helps learners complete computer-based activities.
For example, the virtual Human Resource Director asks the learner to fill
out new employee paperwork (W2, I9, and so forth). Copies of this paperwork
reside in the workbook. Learners use the workbook for taking notes, calculating,
and for sketching solutions. The workbook is also used in three writing exercises
that are evaluated by the instructor. These are "Writing Your Biography",
"Completing an Accident Report", and the "Build Status Report
Form".
-
Personal
Planner
- The personal
planner is a printed document that provides learners the opportunities to
plan and identify resources. It is an important instrument for self-assessment,
providing the self-knowledge and awareness of one's own needs to negotiate
the transition to permanent employment. Activities help the learner define
a support network, learn to handle stress, raise self-confidence, and plan
for ongoing learning. The personal planner provides information on topics
useful after leaving the program including information about money management,
paychecks, benefits, childcare, and transportation. Learners are encouraged
to use the personal planner to bring life experiences into the classroom and
transfer classroom experiences into their home and work environments. Activities
include "Building a Supportive Community", "Career Planning
and Life-long Learning" and "Time Management" exercises.
-
Learning
Resource Guide
- The learning
resource is a printed document that provides specific just-in-time remediation
organized around EnterTech performance objectives. The learning resource is
used for remediation, practice and retraining. Instructors may guide a learner
to the learning resource when the learner has difficulty mastering a specific
performance objective. The learning resource allows learners to practice or
relearn skills, including basic arithmetic. The learning resource provides
another medium, besides the computer-based environment, to enable the learner
to achieve proficiency. Homework exercises can be assigned to specific learners
as needed. The learning resource provides four types of information:
- You've
Done This Before introduces the skill and describes how the learner
uses it in everyday life
- How It
Works at Work shows the learner how to apply this skill to situations
at work
- Try It!
presents exercises to help the learner apply the skill to different work
situations
- Remember
recaps important information about the skill.
The purpose of
the learning resource is to make sure that every learner successfully masters
the performance objectives. No learner should fail in this curriculum. The learning
resource maximizes the success of every learner.
